NOTE: For the 3 days prior to specimen collection, the patient should (1) be on a fat-controlled diet of 100-150 grams of fat per day, (2) use no laxatives, particularly mineral or castor oil, and (3) consume no fat substitutes or fat-blocking nutritional substitutes.
