Alias Names: Acute Leukemia Immunophenotyping

CPT Code: 88184 / 88185 x varies
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Submit any one of the following:
BONE MARROW: 1-3 mL in a 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin), one 4 mL lavender top tube, or one yellow top tube (ACD). Lithium heparin is acceptable but not preferred for flow cytometry testing, and is specifically unacceptable for cytogenetic testing, as it prevents cell division.
PERIPHERAL BLOOD: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA) or one 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin) or yellow top tube (ACD).
BODY FLUID: At least 4 mL fluid preferred. For fluids with low cell counts, larger volumes will improve results.
Handling: Mix bone marrow or body fluid with equal volume of RPMI media, available from Client Services. Submit to lab within 24 hours. If possible, include bone marrow or body fluid slide and blood slide along with relevant history and CBC results.
Standard Volume: 4 mL bone marrow; 4 mL body fluid; 4 mL EDTA whole blood, or 4 mL sodium heparin or ACD whole blood.
Minimum Volume: 1 mL bone marrow or body fluid; 2 mL EDTA whole blood, or 2 mL sodium heparin or ACD whole blood.
Transport: Ambient or refrigerated.
Comments: This panel of markers is designed for determining the lineage of blast cells. It includes myeloid and other lineage markers not included in the lymphoma/lymphoproliferative panel [see Flow Cytometry, Lymphoid Panel (29400)]
Rejection Criteria: Poor cell viability; insufficient cells for analysis.
MEDICARE MAY REQUIRE A SIGNED ADVANCE BENEFICIARY NOTICE (ABN) FOR THIS TEST
