Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 4 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA). Also acceptable but not preferred: One yellow top tube (ACD) solution A or B.
Handling: Do not centrifuge or separate. Do not freeze.
Stability: 7 days ambient or 7 days refrigerated. Specimen unstable frozen.
Standard Volume: 5 mL whole blood.
Minimum Volume: 3 mL whole blood.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: For evaluation of hereditary hemochromatosis in symptomatic patients and their asymptomatic relatives.
Rejection Criteria: Separation; frozen specimen; heparinized whole blood
