Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin). Also acceptable: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or urine.
Handling: Centrifuge green top tube and separate plasma from cells. Freeze plasma or urine immediately. Freeze CSF within 4 hours. Indicate amino acid to be tested, diagnosis, and medications.
Standard Volume: 0.5 mL plasma or CSF, or 3 mL urine.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL plasma or CSF, or 1 mL urine.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Comments: Indicated when quantitation of one or two specific amino acids is required.
