Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
5 mL cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a sterile vial AND one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST) or 7.5 mL red top tube. Both CSF and serum are required for this test and must be submitted together.
Handling:
Centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately. Refrigerate both specimens. Do not freeze.
Standard Volume:
5 mL CSF AND 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
0.3 mL CSF AND 0.3 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria:
Panel cannot be run if no serum is submitted. Plasma is not acceptable.
