Collection: Liver biopsy tissue collected in a royal blue trace element metal-free tube. Also acceptable: Paraffin block.
Stability: 28 days ambient, 28 days refrigerated, or 2 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 5 mg tissue
Minimum Volume: 2 mg tissue
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Iron Index results between 1.0-1.9 suggest mild iron accumulation (alcoholic liver disease or heterozygous hemochromatosis). Results greater than 1.9 indicate hemochromatosis (transfusion-related iron overload or homozygous hemochromatosis). Please note that all tissue is consumed and will not be returned to client.
