Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 5 mL red top tube. Also acceptable: 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), 2 mL grey top tube (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) or 4 mL green top tube (heparin). Avoid use of serum separator tube (SST) and gel barrier tube.
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum and plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate. If gel separator is used, separate serum or plasma from gel within 2 hours of collection. Do not refrigerate on gel separator.
Stability: 5 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 6 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 2 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.6 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Do not order if amitriptyline is administered. Order instead Amitriptyline/Nortriptyline (Elavil) (86840)
Rejection Criteria: Specimen collected and stored in a gel separator tube for more than 2 hours ambient or for more than 30 minutes refrigerated.
