Specimen Collection Details
Collection:One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube. Specimen should be collected before such prostatic manipulations as DRE, prostatic massage, TRUS, or prostatic biopsy.
Handling:Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells within 3 hours. Refrigerate at 2-8o C. Freeze at -20o C or colder if specimen cannot be assayed within 48 hours. Keep frozen.
Stability:48 hours refrigerated or 5 months frozen at -20o C.
Standard Volume:2 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:1 mL serum.
Transport:Refrigerated; or frozen on dry ice.
Comments:This is a Hybritech 3rd Generation (Ultrasensitive) equimolar Total PSA with a clinical sensitivity of 0.008 ng/mL.
Rejection Criteria:Plasma; specimen frozen and thawed more than once.
