Two timed urine collections: an ambulatory and a recumbent collection. Refrigerate during collection. Ambulatory urine collection: upon awakening, the patient voids & discards this sample. Record the start time and date on the container. Collect all urine voided during the daytime in the ambulatory urine container. At bedtime make the final void into the ambulatory urine container. Record the stop time and date on the ambulatory urine container. This will also be the start time and date for the recumbent collection. Recumbent urine collection: all urine voided during the night and the morning wake up void are collected into the recumbent urine container. Record the stop time and date (time of wake up void) on the recumbent urine container.
Handling:
Mix each collection well. Measure, pour off and label one collection at a time. Submit 25 to 100 mL aliquot of each collection. Label each collection with appropriate identification; ambulatory or recumbent. Record the total volume of each collection, start and stop times, and date on the aliquot label.
