Total semen sample by masturbation into a clean, dry glass or plastic container. Do not collect in a condom. Send to the laboratory same day. Patient may deliver specimen to PeaceHealth Laboratories, 123 International Way, Springfield, between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday-Friday, or to any PeaceHealth Laboratories Patient Service Center.
Handling:
Refrigerate, or freeze if transport is delayed beyond 24 hours. Enter patient’s date of birth, spouse’s FULL name, insurance information, and current address on test requisition.
Stability:
24 hours ambient or refrigerated, or 7 days frozen.

Total semen specimen.

1 mL semen.

Comments:
The fructose test is useful in evaluating the cause of azoospermia (absence of sperm). A negative test indicates congenital absence of the vas deferens, or complete obstruction of both ejaculatory ducts.
