Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 5 mL red top tube or serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin), one 4.5 light green top plasma separator (PST), or one 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells and pour into plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability:
8 hour ambient, 7 days refrigerated at 2-8° C, or 2 months frozen at -20° C.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Comments:
Measurement of Antithyroid Peroxidase is useful in assessing autoimmune thyroid diseases.
