One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube.
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge, and immediately separate into a plastic vial. Refrigerate. Freeze ≤ -20° C if specimen cannot be tested within 7 days. Allow no more than three freeze/thaw cycles.
Stability:
8 hours ambient, 7 days refrigerated 2-8° C. Freeze ≤ -20° C for long-term storage.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
035 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments:
ANA specimens are screened using a Luminex assay. All specimens that screen positive are titered using HEp-2 cells and the titer and pattern will be reported. Additional charges will be added for the titer. AMA Titers are performed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Rejection Criteria:
Plasma; grossly lipemic, hemolytic, or contaminated specimen; specimen received in laboratory more than 8 hours ambient, or more than 7 days refrigerated, after collection; specimen frozen/thawed more than 3 times.
