Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA) or one 4 mL green top tube (heparin).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells. Freeze immediately. If multiple tests are ordered, send separate specimen for this test.
Stability: After separation, specimen stable 2 hours ambient, 24 hours refrigerated, or 3 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.3 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Rejection Criteria: Hemolyzed or lipemic specimen.

Reference Range:
Normal 10-57 ng/mL
Expected values for: Chronic Pancreatitis ≤46.0 ng/mL
Acute Pancreatitis 92.0-850.0 ng/mL
Total Pancreatectomy ≤1.4 ng/mL
Cathodic trypsinogen is the analyte quantified by this method. Results for Trypsin-Like Immunoreactivity should be correlated with clinical presentation and other diagnostic data for the diagnosis of pancreatitis.
