Specimen Collection Details
Collection: First morning urine sample into clean, dry plastic container. Also acceptable: Random urine or aliquot of 24-hour urine.
Handling: Freeze specimen within 4 hours of collection. List clinical indications, medications and diagnosis.
Standard Volume: 10 mL urine.
Minimum Volume: 6 mL urine.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Comments: This is the preferred test for initial screening for inborn errors of metabolism since it covers a wide range of abnormalities. Indication/description: Includes Ketoacids, Ketones, Sulfur Aminoacids, Mucopolysaccharides, Urobilinogen, Porphobilinogen, Bilirubin, Glucose, Protein, and Reducing Substances.
Rejection Criteria: Thawing.
