Testing for Clostridium difficile should be considered as an alternative to culture in all patients over the age of 6 months with clinically significant diarrhea and a history of antibiotic exposure. A biochemical screen may be done when presumptive pathogens are isolated. If indicated, identification will follow. Additional charges will be added for these tests.

This test detects the presence of Yersinia enterocolitica and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis.

Rejection Criteria: Delayed transport; rectal swab with no visible fecal material; swab not in transport media; specimen mixed with water or urine; frozen specimen; more than one specimen collected in a 24-hours period.
