84431:HEAVY METALS PANEL, URINE, WITH REFLEX TO ARSENIC FRACTIONATED
Alias Names: | Metals / Urine / Quantitative
Methodology: | Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS)
Edit Date: | 6/11/2010 | ||||||||
Components: | Arsenic (As) / Mercury (Hg) / Lead (Pb) / Creatinine
Performed: | Monday-Saturday
Released: | 1-4 days after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab.
CPT Code: | 82175-90 / 83655-90 / 83825-90 / 82175 if reflexed
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: | 24-hour or random urine in a clean dry plastic container. Refrigerate during collection, storage, and transport.
Handling: | Mix well and aliquot. Record total volume and collection time interval on container and on requisition. Studies indicate that, if tested within 8 days of collection, refrigeration alone of urine during and after collection preserves the specimen as well as preservatives. |
||||||||
Stability: | 7 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated. or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: | 10 mL aliquot from well mixed collection.
Minimum Volume: | 5 mL aliquot.
Transport: | Refrigerated.
Comments: | If the Arsenic, Urine is above 35.0 µg/L the test automatically reflexes to an Arsenic Fractionated, Urine. A speciation is performed to differentiate between organic, inorganic, and methylated arsenic.
Rejection Criteria: | Urine collected within 48 hours after administration of a gadolinium (Gd) containing contrast media (may occur with MRI studies); acid-preserved urine. |
