Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and immediately pour into a plastic vial.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 200 µL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Scleroderma (Scl-70) antibody is seen in 20-60% of patients with scleroderma and is considered diagnostic and specific for scleroderma if it is the only ENA antibody present. Scl-70 is also seen in approximately 25% of progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS).
Rejection Criteria: Plasma and other body fluids; severely lipemic, contaminated, or hemolyzed specimen.
