Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST), or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Also acceptable: Supernatant. Specimen source required.
Handling:
Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma. Freeze immediately. CSF in a sterile container. Freeze immediately. Allow no more than one freeze/thaw cycle. If multiple tests are ordered, send separate specimen for this test.
Stability:
1 hour at ambient temperature, 24 hours refrigerated, or 3 months frozen.
Standard Volume:
2 mL plasma or 1 mL CSF.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL plasma or CSF.
Transport:
Frozen on dry ice.
Rejection Criteria:
Samples not frozen within 24 hours; specimen frozen and thawed more than once; non-sterile or leaking containers; heparinized or hemolyzed samples.
