Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 5 mL red top tube. Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin). Do not use serum separator tube (SST) or gels.
Handling: Allow to clot at ambient temperature, centrifuge and separate 1 mL serum or plasma from cells and pour into plastic vial immediately. Refrigerate.
Stability: 7 days ambient, 3 weeks refrigerated, or 6 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.8 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: This test includes phenobarbital. Do not order phenobarbital separately.
Rejection Criteria: Use of serum separator tube (SST) or gels.
