Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Random stool in a clean, dry, plastic container.
Handling: If transport will be delayed beyond 72 hours, immediately freeze at ≤ -20° C and transport frozen.
Stability: Specimen stable 72 hours refrigerated. Freeze at ≤ -20° C for longer storage. Unstable ambient.
Standard Volume: 5 gm solid stool.
Minimum Volume: 1 gm solid stool.
Transport: Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments: Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors and bismuth preparations are known to suppress H. pylori. Ingestion of these compounds in the two week period prior to H. pylori testing may give a false negative result.

Test results are intended to aid in the diagnosis of H. pylori infection, to monitor response during therapy, and to confirm eradication following therapy.

The performance of this test has not been determined for patients less than 18 years of age.

Rejection Criteria: Specimen received in transport media or swabs, or in preservative; watery or diarrheal specimen; delayed transport.
