Collection: | Nasopharynx swab, nasal washing, or aspirate (moist swab or prepared slide). | ||||||||
Handling: | Leave swab in Regan-Lowe and incubate 24-48 hours at 35° C , or send without incubation. Send two prepared slides or moist swab in bacterial transport media (Regan-Lowe, or Aimes with or without charcoal). Specimen source required. | ||||||||
Stability: | Specimen: 48 hours ambient or 7 days refrigerated. Unstable frozen.
Slides: 7 days ambient, 7 days refrigerated, or 1 month frozen. Regan-Lowe: 4 days ambient or 4 days refrigerated. Unstable frozen. |
