Oregon Medical Laboratories Moves Headquarters to Riverbend Annex

Springfield, Ore. – More than one year after finalizing a plan to relocate its headquarters to Springfield, Oregon Medical Laboratories (OML) has completed its move into its new 70,000 square-foot space at 123 International Way, nearly doubling its operation size.
As the state’s largest clinical and drug testing laboratory in Oregon, OML invested $17 million in its new location including $2 million in new laboratory equipment.
“To refer to our new headquarters facility as ‘state-of-the-art’ is an understatement,” said Ran Whitehead, CEO of Oregon Medical Laboratories. “The workflow systems that our new laboratory affords are exceptional and completely uncompromised, and our equipment is the most up-to-date available. Plus, we have enough space to accommodate growth through 2011, with the capacity to further expand within the building.”
OML’s main laboratory operations had previously been located near downtown Eugene, where it still maintains a laboratory dedicated to providing services for Sacred Heart Medical Center. While the previous location enabled OML to provide more than 45 percent of the state’s reference laboratory services, the new open, single-floor laboratory space allows for the addition of new automated technologies that will ultimately
provide patients with faster test results.
One of the most progressive equipment additions currently being installed at OML’s new location is an automated specimen processing system made by the Germany-based company, Probenverteiltechnik GmbH (PVT). OML will be the first laboratory in the country to have installed a full system of this kind, which enables it to more than double its processing capacity. Due to the configuration of the previous OML headquarters and
the size of the PVT processing system, this equipment was not an option for the company before moving into its new space.
PeaceHealth, parent company of OML, purchased the 327,000 square-foot former Sony disc manufacturing plant in August 2004 for $16.6 million. The building, renamed RiverBend Annex, is located on 53 acres less than one half mile north of the planned Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, scheduled to open in 2008.
In addition to the laboratory, the new OML location offers ample office space, multimedia rooms, a dining area, a fitness center, a meditation room, gardens and open spaces. The remainder of RiverBend Annex contains PeaceHealth support services such as its main warehouse, purchasing, property management, patient financial services, transcription, a compounding pharmacy and the Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation.
