Springfield, Ore.– Oregon Medical Laboratories has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of recent on-site inspections of three of its Lane County laboratories.
“We are thrilled to receive this acknowledgement of the quality of services we provide to hospitals, physicians and patients throughout Oregon,” said Jeffrey Houck, MD, OML’s Medical Director and a board-certified pathologist. OML operates five laboratories in Oregon, all separately accredited by CAP. The main laboratory in Springfield serves hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes and employers throughout the Northwest. OML also operates a lab in the Portland area and three on-site hospital laboratories, including Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence and Cottage Grove Community Hospital.
During the CAP accreditation process, 16 inspectors arrived unannounced for an intensive two-day examination of the Springfield, Sacred Heart and Cottage Grove laboratories. The inspectors scrutinized quality assurance programs and records, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety and overall management. The stringent bi-annual inspections meet federal requirements established by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to ensure the highest standard of care for patients. OML’s Portland lab and its lab at Peace Harbor Hospital achieved CAP accreditation earlier this year.
