FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 27, 2008 Springfield, Ore. – For the fifth consecutive year, Oregon Medical Laboratories (OML) has been named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon by Oregon Business magazine. Sure OML has great benefits, a generous vacation policy and an average salary of $20/hour. But it is the combination of those tangibles with the intangibles – such as a CEO who welcomes new employees and features them on his blog – that has led to OML’s glowing and growing reputation as a great employer. “One of the best things about OML is the opportunity for professional growth,” says Lynette Long, Chemistry Technical Specialist, who recently joined OML after 27 years at a Seattle-area hospital. “People are encouraged to further their education, supported with tuition assistance and given opportunities to advance. I know of few organizations like OML.” For Jackie Klein, a 16-year employee in Specimen Management, it is the collegiality with her co-workers that excite her about coming to work each day. “I like and respect the people I work with,” says Jackie. “And even in times of transition, I feel supported and that people really care about how you’re feeling.” As a 24/7 operation, Jackie also found the flexible scheduling options appealing, working evenings when her children were younger and then moving to a daytime schedule. “This recognition is especially meaningful because it is our employees who voted us on to the list,” said Ran Whitehead, CEO. “It is our employees who are the ones delivering patient care and making a difference in patients’ lives. This award means that they feel valued and supported.” To determine the state”s top employers, Oregon Business magazine surveys employees on workplace qualities such as benefits, work environment, decision-making, performance management and career development. About Oregon Medical Laboratories OML provides medical diagnostic tests, clinical laboratory consultation and drug testing services to hundreds of hospitals, physician offices and employers throughout the Pacific Northwest.
