Study Published in ‘Atherosclerosis’ Provides
Evidence of
Link Between Low LDL Particle Levels and Reduced Risk of
Cardiovascular Disease
The causal link between increased quantity of LDL and the
development of CHD is well established. Elevated LDL
quantity accelerates the development of atherosclerotic disease
and the longer the exposure to elevated LDL, the greater the risk of
such cardiovascular events as myocardial infarction, ischemic
stroke, and coronary mortality.
Lowering LDL quantity is a key strategy for reducing CHD risk
recommended by treatment guidelines which were developed
on the basis of strong evidence from primary and secondary
prevention trials with statins.
