Summer Lock Box Reminder: Use Ice Packs To Ensure Specimen Integrity and Quality Results

Most analytes are unstable unless kept cold. To avoid the need to recollect and to ensure specimens arrive at the lab in testable condition, always include frozen ice packs in the lock box during the warm summer months. Couriers will transport specimens at the temperature in which they are held at your facility.

To protect specimens from extreme heat, always place refrigerated collections directly on ice packs. Ambient specimens should be put toward the top of the box. It is necessary to place a divider (or newspaper) between ice packs and the ambient specimens.
