Tests with Differing Temperature Requirements
When tests ordered for one patient require specimens to be held at different temperatures, then multiple specimens will need to be collected, stored and transported separately. To indicate to the laboratory that more than one specimen type is associated with a patient:
- Mark all the tests ordered on the original requisition
- Make a copy of the requisition for each additional temperature type required
- Indicate on each requisition that it is one of multiple requisitions
- Place each temperature type in a separate specimen bag with a requisition
