Our current tough economy did not dampen spirits at this year’s Festival of Trees fundraiser. Event sponsor Cascade Health Services was delighted with the turnout and the exceptional tree entries from their corporate sponsors.

“The Festival of Trees is more than just a fundraising event. It has become a family tradition for so many in this area,” says Margie Brooks, Festival of Trees Coordinator for Cascade Health Services. “Times are tough this year and people may not have the money to spend that they have in previous years. Yet the crowds were there, the trees were beautiful, and the auction gifts very generous,”

And the OML tree? The black-and-white “Head Over Heels for the Holidays” entry was a popular attraction and always seemed to have a crowd gathered around it. It even placed first in the “Best Use of Theme” category.

Ms. Brooks had some high praise not only for the tree but also for the creative OML staff that brought it to life. “The OML team that created the tree was really inspiring. They put so much effort into the concept and design, and their matching OML T-shirts and aprons and great attitude spoke volumes about the employee pride at the laboratory,” she explains.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will contribute to the creation of a Eugene-Springfield Hospice House, which will assist Lane County residents in need of shelter and care in their final days. Thanks to all the sponsors and visitors who made this event a smashing success.

See you next year!
