Specimen Collection Details |
Collection: |
Patient should be fasting 8-16 hours. Three specimens needed: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), and one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST), and 25 mL random urine in a sterile container. Do not add preservatives to urine. |
Handling: |
Lavender top tube: Refrigerate whole blood for up to 7 days. Serum separator tube (SST): Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate serum and transport within 4 days. Refrigerate urine. |
Standard Volume: |
2 mL EDTA whole blood, 4 mL serum, and 25 mL urine. |
Minimum Volume: |
2 mL EDTA whole blood, 2 mL serum, and 10 mL urine. |
Transport: |
Refrigerated. |
Rejection Criteria: |
Gross hemolysis. Urine contaminated with blood or containing preservatives.
MEDICARE MAY REQUIRE A SIGNED ADVANCE BENEFICIARY NOTICE (ABN) FOR THIS TEST
