|Specimen Collection Details|
|Collection:||One 5 mL red top tube. Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).|
|Handling:||Allow red tube to clot, centrifuge and immediately separate serum or plasma into a plastic vial. Freeze.|
|Stability:||6 weeks ambient, 6 weeks refrigerated, or 11 months frozen.|
|Standard Volume:||1 mL serum or plasma.|
|Minimum Volume:||0.6 mL serum or plasma.|
|Transport:||Frozen on dry ice.|
|Comments:||No therapeutic range has been established. Dosing of 2 g/day gives trough values of 1.0-3.5 µg/mL while 3 g/day gives values up to 5.0 µg/mL. Trough levels between 2.0 and 4.0 µg/mL have been suggested to maximize efficacy and minimize adverse effects.|
|Rejection Criteria:||Specimen collected in SST or gel barrier tube.
