Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA). Also acceptable: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), throat swab, urine, biopsy tissue, lung tissue, or colon biopsy. Source of specimen required.
Handling:
Keep as whole blood. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) or urine in a sterile, leak-proof container. Biopsy tissue, lung tissue, colon biopsy or throat swab in viral transport media (M4).
Stability:
2 hours ambient or 72 hours refrigerated. Specimen unstable frozen.
Standard Volume:
4 mL EDTA blood.
Minimum Volume:
1 mL EDTA blood.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria:
Stool specimen; CSF; rectal swabs, dry swabs, wooden swabs, calcium alginate swabs; specimen in transport medium other than specified; frozen specimen.
