One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST) or one red top tube for baseline and post-injection of Secretin specimens. Draw baseline serum specimen just prior to injection of Secretin. Patients must be fasting for 10 hours or longer prior to drawing the baseline gastrin level. Administer intravenously over a period of 1 minute, 0.4 micrograms Secretin (SecreFlo) per kilogram of body weight. Collect post-injection blood specimen at 2, 5, 10 and 15 minutes for determination of serum gastrin.
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells within one hour of draw. Freeze immediately. Clearly label each sample as baseline or post-injection time of draw. Allow no more than one freeze/thaw cycle.
Stability:
4 hours refrigerated at 2-8° C or 30 days frozen at -20° C.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL serum.
Transport:
Frozen, on dry ice.
Rejection Criteria:
Hemolysis; lipemia; specimen which has been frozen and thawed more than once.
