Collection: |
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). |
Handling: |
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a screw-capped plastic vial. Refrigerate. Clearly label specimen ‘acute’ or ‘convalescent’. |
Standard Volume: |
1 mL serum. |
Minimum Volume: |
0.5 mL serum (pediatric: 250 µL). |
Transport: |
Refrigerated. |
Comments: |
Recommend acute and convalescent specimens. Convalescent specimens should be obtained 2-3 weeks after onset. |
Rejection Criteria: |
Grossly lipemic or hemolyzed; specimen other than serum. |
