Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 4 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA).
Handling: Keep as whole blood. Diagnosis and date of birth are required for assay completion.
Stability: 24 hours ambient, 72 hours refrigerated. Specimen unstable frozen.
Standard Volume: 8 mL whole blood.
Minimum Volume: 5 mL whole blood.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: The ApoE analysis is applicable for a patient with dementia and cannot be interpreted for asymptomatic individuals who do not present with dementia. Patient should be over age 65; specimen on a minor is not accepted. The reason for testing is required, either for diagnostic or predictive purpose.
Rejection Criteria: Specimen received on individuals under age of 18; specimen received without diagnosis and date of birth.
