Preparation of Smears: Place 1-2 drops of fluid onto a microscopic slide. If specimen is swab, roll the swab over surface of the slide. Air dry and heat-fix the slide. Smears will be prepared at lab if submitting swab or fluid.
Stability:
72 hours ambient, 7 days refrigerated, or 7 days frozen.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria:
Formalin preserved specimen or specimen in saline; urine.
