Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge, separate serum from cells immediately into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Some recent studies indicate that elevated levels of IgA class anticardiolipin antibodies are found in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and related disorders. In these studies, IgA values are higher in patients with vascular complications and thrombocytopenia.
Rejection Criteria: Heat-activated serum; plasma; severely lipemic, hemolyzed, or contaminated specimen.
