Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 10 mL green top tube (sodium heparin). Draw Monday-Wednesday or Thursday if specimen will reach PeaceHealth Laboratories before 1200. Notify PeaceHealth Laboratories Reference Department of intent to draw.
Handling: Keep as whole blood. Keep ambient. Specimen must reach PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab within 48 hours of collection.
Stability: Not stable.
Standard Volume: 10 mL whole blood (up to 5 antigens)
Minimum Volume: 8 mL whole blood (up to 5 antigens)
Transport: Ambient.
Comments: There are 48 different antigens to choose from, in 5 different categories. Indicate on requisition the antigen(s) needed. A list is available from PeaceHealth Laboratories Reference Department. The ProGene BasoFunction test may be useful with patients who have a suggestive history and for whom skin testing and/or in vitro specific IgE testing is not appropriate or available.
Rejection Criteria: Lithium heparin.
