Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube or one 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and immediately separate serum or plasma from cells.
Stability: 7 days refrigerated, or indefinitely frozen. Unstable ambient. Allow no more than one freeze/that cycle.
Standard Volume: 2.5 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 1.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Order this assay only when a specimen is repeatedly reactive for hepatitis B surface antigen. This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).
Rejection Criteria: Specimen containing particulate material or obvious microbial contamination; severely hemolyzed or lipemic specimen; heparinized plasma.
