Centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a plastic vial immediately. Mark specimen plainly as ‘acute’ or ‘convalescent.’ Refrigerate. |
Stability: |
48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. |

Comments: |
Parallel testing is preferred and the convalescent specimen must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimen. Acute and convalescent specimens must be labeled as such. |
