Specimen Collection Details
Collection: These requirements are for the second trimester draw for the Serum Integrated Screen, 2nd Trimester which can be performed only on individuals between 15 weeks, 0 days and 21 weeks, 6 days gestation, and who have had the Serum Integrated Screen, 1st Trimester (41989). Order on a PeaceHealth Laboratories Obstetrics requisition or electronically, and include any change from 1st trimester test in patient weight, due date, dating method (US, LMP), or number of fetuses. Collect one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge, and separate serum from cells immediately. Refrigerate.
Stability: 7 days refrigerated at 2-8° C, or 30 days frozen at -20° C. Allow no more than one freeze cycle.
Standard Volume: 3 mL serum
Minimum Volume: 1.5 mL serum
Transport: Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis or gross lipemia.
