Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge, immediately separate serum or plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: After separation from cells, 4 hours ambient or 7 days refrigerated. Unstable frozen. DO NOT FREEZE.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 200 µL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Ambient or frozen specimen; EDTA whole blood.

0-234 ng/mL

Patients with high lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A 2 concentrations ≥ 235 mg/mL are at increased risk for cardiovascular events including myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. The median lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A 2 value for a healthy population is 235 ng/mL.
