Collection performed Monday-Saturday by appointment with PeaceHealth Laboratories Outpatient Phlebotomy. Patient must be fasting 8-16 hours. Two specimens required: Fasting and 2- hour post-glucola.Collect one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST), one 4 mL green top heparanized plasma separator tube (PST), one 2 mL grey top tube (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride), or one 5 mL gold top serum separator tube (SST) for each draw. The standard glucola dose for a non-pregnant adult is 75 grams and is administered after the fasting specimen is drawn. The 2-hour specimen is drawn subsequent to the ingestion of the glucola dose.
Handling:
Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells immediately. Specimens drawn in serum or plasma separator tube can be transported in the original tube after centrifugation. Clearly indicate the draw time and fasting or post-glucola dose on each specimen. Refrigerate.
Stability:
8 hours ambient, 6 days refrigerated, or indefinitely if frozen.
Standard Volume:
2 mL plasma from each collection.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL plasma from each collection.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria:
Moderate hemolysis.
