Collection: |
One lavender top (EDTA) tube (any size), or 3 capillary tubes filled with blood and sealed with clay. |
Handling: |
Place capillary tubes inside a sealed vacutainer tube and refrigerate. |
Stability: |
24 hours refrigerated. |
Standard Volume: |
1 mL EDTA whole blood, or 3 capillary tubes. |
Minimum Volume: |
0.3 mL EDTA whole blood in a 1 mL microcollection tube, or 2 capillary tubes. |
Transport: |
Refrigerated. |
Comments: |
If sufficient blood is submitted, an automated hematocrit will be performed. If capillary tubes are submitted, a packed cell volume (PCV) will be determined from centrifuged capillary tubes. |
Rejection Criteria: |
Frozen specimen; clotting; marked hemolysis; broken capillary tubes.
