Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two specimens required: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST) or 5 mL red top tube, and 5 mL cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Both serum and cerebrospinal fluid are required for this test. They must be drawn within 7 days of each other and must be submitted together.
Handling: Centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately. Refrigerate.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum and 2 mL CSF.
Minimum Volume: 0.8 mL serum and 1 mL CSF.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Serum not submitted; plasma; insufficient CSF volume.
