Collection: |
One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), or 2-3 blood or bone marrow slides. |
Handling: |
Protect blood from light by wrapping tube in foil. Send slides in a slide folder or wrap in heavy cardboard and tape closed. Send to PeaceHealth Laboratories within 24 hours for optimum staining. |
Standard Volume: |
4 mL EDTA whole blood, or 3 slides. |
Minimum Volume: |
0.5 mL EDTA whole blood, or 1 slide. |
Transport: |
Whole blood refrigerated; slides ambient. |
Comments: |
Include copy of hematology results including bone marrow differential, if available, to assist with pathologist interpretation. Used to detect granulocytic differentiation of immature cells in evaluation of leukemia. See also: Esterase Stain (23260). |

Insufficient material on slides for evaluation; frozen specimen; gross hemolysis. |
