Specimen Collection Details |
Collection: |
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 7 mL green top tube (lithium heparin) or one 4.5 mL plasma separator tube (PST). |
Handling: |
Allow to clot, centrifuge SST or PST within 2 hours of collection and transport in original tube. Centrifuge green top (heparin) tube within 2 hours of collection and separate plasma from cells into a plastic vial for transport. Refrigerate. |
Standard Volume: |
2 mL serum or plasma. |
Minimum Volume: |
0.5 mL serum or plasma. |
Transport: |
Refrigerated. |
Comments: |
Hemolyzed specimens produce falsely elevated phosphorus values. |
