87360:PORPHYRINS, QUANTITATIVE, 24 HOUR STOOL
Methodology: Fluorometric; High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Edit Date: 7/22/2005
Performed: Monday-Friday
Released: 4 days after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab.
CPT Code: 84126-90
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: 24-hour stool sample in a pre-weighed screw-cap plastic container, obtained from Client Services. If 100 grams is not obtained in 24 hours, extend collection to 48-72 hours. Freeze. Patient should refrain from red meat for 3 days prior to collection and abstain from alcohol for 24 hours prior to and during collection. Compliance should be indicated. Include with the specimen a list of medications the patient is currently taking.
Handling: Note time collection started and stopped on request form.
Stability: 14 days refrigerated, or indefinitely frozen. Unstable ambient.
Standard Volume: At least 100 grams.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.

Reference ranges are reported as porphyrins excreted in ug/24 hours.
