Methodology: Standard procedures for identification and susceptibility testing of aerobic and anaerobic organisms.
Edit Date: 6/11/2010
Performed: Daily
Released: Preliminary at 24 hours. Final at 2-5 days.
CPT Code: CPT codes vary based on testing performed.
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Viable organism in pure culture on tubed media. Note: If organism is a gram positive bacillus, order Aerobic Organism Id with Susceptibilities (80274) or Aerobic Bacterial Id (85856).
Handling: Use CO2 generator or candle jar for organisms requiring CO2. Use anaerobic generator for anaerobic organisms. Keep ambient. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Avoid extreme heat or cold. Package organism according to Infectious Substance Shipping Guidelines.
Stability: Unstable frozen.
Transport: Ambient.
Comments: Include any available information about the organism. Indicate if susceptibility testing is required in addition to the identification. A charge will be added for each definitive identification and susceptibility.
Rejection Criteria: Non-viable organism(s); mixed culture; frozen specimen.
