Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and immediately separate serum from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 0.3 mL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Histone antibodies are present in 20-55% of idiopathic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 80-95% of drug-induced SLE. They occur in less than 20% of other types of connective tissue diseases.
Rejection Criteria: Plasma; severe lipemia; bacterial contamination; hemolysis.
