Eugene, Ore. – Oregon Medical Laboratories (OML) received the prestigious Emerald Award for Job Growth at the third annual Emerald Awards ceremony hosted by the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce late last month. OML’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Houck, MD, credited the dedication and expertise of OML’s 453 employees for the accomplishment.
“We were delighted to participate in the Emerald Awards and were honored to be selected as a winner,” said Dr. Houck. “OML’s success is largely due to our staff’s dedication to providing quality testing and excellent customer service. They are the reason our clients entrust the health of their patients to OML.”
OML received the award based on the company’s ability to consistently increase its family-wage employee base by between five and 10 percent each year. According to chamber organizers, Emerald Awards are given to demonstrate the important connection between the success of local business and the quality of life in the Greater Eugene community. OML was a finalist for the same award last year.
“There are many businesses that contribute to our community by providing jobs and valuable goods and services to residents, but the Emerald Award finalists have gone above and beyond to help make Eugene more livable,” said Chris Nystrom, director of business assistance for the chamber. “These awards give us an opportunity to recognize these leaders in Eugene’s business community.”
OML offers employees many work-life balancing benefits including a paid time-off program, dependent and additional adult health plan coverage, tuition reimbursements, scholarships and distance learning programs. Approximately 85 percent of the company’s employees have worked at the company for at least five years.
From a total of 78 nominees, the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce selected one winner for each of four categories: Community Caring, Environmental Values, Innovation and Job Growth. All of the awards honor local businesses that make positive contributions to the health and vitality of the community. The Emerald Awards ceremony was held in downtown Eugene’s Hult Center on Sept. 20 with approximately 350 business leaders in attendance.
In addition to the recognition from the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, OML has also been recognized as one ofOregon’s 100 Best CompaniesTo Work For by Oregon Business magazine for the past three consecutive years.
